Laiza
Skip unless you have a specific reason (Kachin culture, border trade) and have secured a permit beyond Myitkyina. Half a day covers the market and a meal.
Laiza is a Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) border town that grew from a village after the 1994 ceasefire. It offers a glimpse of Kachin life, Chinese goods, and local food, but reaching it requires a permit, two checkpoints, and a long drive from Myitkyina. Most travellers skip it.
