Labé is a 1–2 night stop in the Fouta Djallon highlands: see the market, use it as a base for trekking, then move on to Dalaba or Doucki.

Labé is the capital of the Moyenne Guinée region and the second-largest city in Guinea, about 450 km northeast of Conakry. It sits near the centre of the country at an altitude that keeps it cooler than the coast. Most travellers use it as a supply and logistics hub for the Fouta Djallon highlands, spending one night or two if they arrange a trek.

  • Africa ↗When a route touches a yellow-fever country — even a transit of 12 hours or more — keep the original yellow card (ICVP) in your hand luggage; health desks and airlines can refuse boarding or entry without it.
  • Africa ↗Nine African countries on this site have no trip line because governments advise against travel; several others have no-go regions. Read your government's advice for every country on the route before paying deposits.
  • West Africa ↗Carry an original yellow fever vaccination certificate on any West African trip: several countries on the coast road demand it of every arrival, and the rest demand it after you have passed through a neighbour.

Watch out

Safety

Labé is generally safe for tourists, but take standard precautions: avoid walking alone after dark, keep valuables out of sight, and agree taxi fares upfront. The main risks are road accidents and petty theft in crowded markets.
  • Check road conditions before the rainy season: the paved road from Koundara has a rough 30 km (19 mi) unpaved section near Gaoual.
  • Shared taxis from Conakry take 8–10 hours; start early.
  • Hotel Djamtum is a reliable option; book ahead in peak season.
