The honest verdict

Kyrenia is the northern coast's main tourist town, a horseshoe harbour under a Crusader-era castle with the Kyrenia mountains behind. The trips that go wrong enter the island by the wrong route for their later plans, hire a car whose insurance stops at the Green Line, or walk the quay at 14:00 in July. Four small areas cover a first visit: the harbour, the castle, the old-town market and the main street. Bellapais Abbey and St Hilarion Castle are car or taxi trips from the same bed.
