If your hotel is near KL Sentral or on the Kelana Jaya or MRT lines, the KLIA Ekspres is the default: 28 minutes, RM55, and it does not care about the Federal Highway at 18:00. If you are three or more people, carrying big bags, arriving after midnight, or staying in Bukit Bintang, Chinatown or Bangsar, a Grab or an airport taxi costs about the same as three train tickets and drops you at the door.

The detail
KLIA Ekspres is the non-stop service from KLIA and KLIA2 to KL Sentral, the city's main rail hub. It is clean, air-conditioned, has luggage space, and takes 28 minutes. From KL Sentral you can reach most of the city by LRT, MRT, monorail or a short Grab ride. The KLIA Transit uses the same track but stops at Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan — useful if you are heading to Putrajaya or to the TBS bus terminal rather than the centre.
The airport bus runs from both terminals to KL Sentral, with some services continuing to other points. It is the cheapest way in and the least predictable: the run can take an hour in light traffic or well over 90 minutes when the highway is jammed. Buy at the counter or on board; keep small notes.
Grab is the default ride-hailing app in Malaysia and works at both terminals. You book in the app, get a fixed price, and meet the driver at a marked pickup bay — follow the signs rather than accepting offers from people approaching you inside the terminal. Airport taxis sold at the official coupon counter are a fixed-price alternative if you do not have data on arrival. Both take 55–90 minutes depending on traffic and your exact destination.
For Putrajaya, the KLIA Transit is the obvious choice: it stops there directly and avoids a long drive around the city. If you are connecting onward by train to Penang, Ipoh or Butterworth, go straight to KL Sentral and change there rather than crossing town.

Landing at KLIA2 means you are flying a low-cost carrier; the walk from the gate to the train or taxi rank can take 15–20 minutes on its own, so do not book a tight onward connection.
