Krasnodar is the administrative capital of Krasnodar Krai and the largest city in southern Russia, with a population of about 850,000. It is an agricultural and food-processing centre, not a resort: the Black Sea beaches are 100–150 km west. The city has a compact, walkable centre along Krasnaya Street, a handful of museums, a Shukhov hyperboloid tower and a 34,000-seat football stadium. Most travellers use it as a rail or road stop on the way to Sochi, Novorossiysk or the coast. Two nights is enough to see the centre and one day trip.
