Kalimantan is the Indonesian two-thirds of Borneo: about 580,000 km² with roughly 12 million people, so the interior is empty and the roads are thin. Pick one corner — Banjarmasin for rivers and floating markets, Balikpapan for the Derawan reef run, Pontianak for the Sarawak border and the Kapuas — and fly between corners rather than driving. Most travellers need 4–7 nights in one province, not a loop.
