Jurien Bay is a small crayfishing and holiday town 220 km north of Perth, on the Indian Ocean Drive. The draw is the marine park: sea lion snorkelling, the jetty, and wildflower country inland at Lesueur. It works as a two-night stop on a Perth-to-Geraldton run, not as a destination on its own for a long trip.

Getting around

The town centre is walkable, but the jetty, marina, North Head, Sandy Cape and Lesueur are 3–30 km apart. You need your own car; a 4WD or high-clearance vehicle for Stockyard Gully and some beach tracks. Integrity Coaches stop at the Roadhouse three evenings a week from Perth (about 3 h).

Watch out

Safety

Very safe for a small coastal town. The real risks are heat, unpatrolled surf, and driving at dusk when kangaroos cross the highway.
  • No public transport in town: without a car you are limited to the jetty and beach.
  • Fuel is at the Roadhouse, open 24 h; the next reliable fuel north is Green Head or Dongara.
  • Mobile coverage is patchy on the approach roads and drops out entirely on some inland tracks.
  • Stockyard Gully cave needs high-clearance 4WD and no dogs are allowed.
  • Summer heat and flies: carry water and start walks early.
