Johor is the southernmost state of Peninsular Malaysia, joined to Singapore by a causeway at Johor Bahru. Most visitors see only the border; the state rewards two nights in JB (food, old shophouses, Legoland at Iskandar Puteri) plus one coastal stop — Desaru on the east coast for beaches, Mersing as the ferry gateway to Tioman. The interior towns (Muar, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Kulai) are food and coffee stops, not headline sights. East and west coasts are split by the Titiwangsa range, so plan one side per trip.
