The detail
Princes' Islands: buy a return ticket at the pier, take the early ferry, and rent a bike or walk on Büyükada. The last ferries back fill up on summer weekends, so check the timetable before you leave in the morning.
Bursa: the İDO ferry from Yenikapı or Kabataş to Mudanya is the pleasant route; from Mudanya a bus or dolmuş reaches central Bursa in about 30–40 minutes. The YHT from Istanbul to Bursa involves a change and a metro connection, so check the current timetable. Once there, the Green Mosque, the silk bazaar and a plate of İskender kebap fill a day.
Edirne: the Selimiye Mosque is the reason to go, and the old streets around it are worth two or three hours. It is a long day; if you want to see it properly, stay one night instead.
İznik: the lake walls and the tile tradition are the draw, but public transport is slow. A car makes it a comfortable day; without one, expect a long connection through Yalova.
Kıyıköy and the Black Sea coast: a car is the only realistic option for a day trip. The same applies to Gallipoli, where an organised tour from Istanbul is the usual choice because the sites are spread out and the drive is long.
