Getting there
Metro Line 1 stops at Opera House (Nhà hát Thành phố) station, a few minutes' walk from the north end, and at Bến Thành. Car and motorbike ride apps can drop you at either end.

Partly car-free. The central plaza has been pedestrian-only since 2015; traffic lanes run along both sides and must be crossed at lights. At Tết and some festivals the side roads close too (check).

- Street vendors (shoe shiners, coconut sellers) who hand you something or pose you for a photo and then demand a high price: agree the price first or say no.
- Cyclo drivers offering a cheap ride and then charging per person or per hour at the end: agree the total in writing.
- Change handed back in the wrong notes (₫20,000 vs ₫200,000 look similar): count it.
Accessibility
- The plaza is wide, flat and smooth, one of the easiest places in the city for wheelchairs and strollers.
- Getting on and off means crossing busy side roads; use the signalized crossings.

A line of history
The street follows a canal filled in by the French in the 19th century to make a boulevard. In 2015 its central section was rebuilt as a pedestrian plaza, and it now hosts the city's New Year flower street every Tết.
