Hardap is the thin middle of southern Namibia: the B1 corridor between Windhoek and Keetmanshoop, plus the C19 west to Maltahöhe and the Naukluft. Most travellers cross it in half a day. It earns a night if you want the Naukluft hikes, the Hardap Dam, or a cheaper bed before Sossusvlei; otherwise drive through and sleep further west.

Distances look short on the map but gravel slows you to 60–80 km/h, and minor D- and F-roads to about 30 km/h.
Fuel up in Mariental, Rehoboth or Maltahöhe; stations are far apart and some close early.
Do not plan to arrive at a farm or lodge after sunset — gates and reception shut.
