Halle (Saale)
Give Halle one full day plus a night: old town, Handel's house and the Moritzburg in the morning, Giebichenstein and the Saale bank after lunch. Skip it only if you have under 24 hours.
Halle an der Saale is Saxony-Anhalt's second city, 25 minutes by train from Leipzig and about 70 minutes from Berlin on the ICE. It is a working university and science city with a compact old town, a salt-mining past and the strongest Handel connection in Germany. Most travellers see it as a day trip from Leipzig; one night lets you add the river and the GDR new town without rushing.

Get around
