Gwynedd is the northwest quarter of Wales: Snowdon and the slate valleys in the north, the Llŷn Peninsula reaching west, and the Cambrian coast running south to Barmouth and Tywyn. It is a county of small towns 20–60 minutes apart, so one base plus day trips beats moving hotels. A car is the flexible option; the Cambrian and North Wales coast lines cover the edges but not the middle.
