Guadalajara is Mexico's second city and the capital of Jalisco, about 5.2 million people in the metro area. The Centro Histórico is walkable in a morning; the real draw is the craft suburbs of Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, the Orozco murals, and tequila country an hour away. - Some bars and clubs on Chapultepec add a cover or a minimum; ask before you sit.
Central Guadalajara is fine by day and busy at night; the risks are petty theft in markets, taxi overcharging, and the blocks around the Central Vieja bus station after dark. Use Uber there.
