Grude
Skip Grude as a base: it is a 20-minute fuel-and-coffee stop on the M-6 between Mostar and the Croatian border, not a half-day.
Grude is a small Herzegovinian town of about 4,400 residents, 49 km from Mostar on the M-6 road to Ljubuški, Čapljina and Metković. It has no headline sight: travellers use it for fuel, a coffee or a bed on the way between Mostar, Međugorje and the coast. Plan on a short stop, not a stay.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'dobar dan', 'merhaba' or 'selam' in Sarajevo; avoid: Assuming everyone is Muslim or everyone is Serb
- Coffee invitation: Accept and sit; it is hospitality; avoid: Rushing off after one sip
- Home visit: Shoes off; bring sweets or coffee; avoid: Refusing all food
- Mosques: Cover up, shoes off, quiet; avoid: Walking in front of people praying
- Politics: Ask about daily life and let people lead; avoid: Declaring who was right in the war
Scams and watch-outs
- Mountain roads ice over in winter; drive with headlights on and keep documents in the car.
- Fuel up here if you are heading to the Croatian border: stations thin out on the minor roads.
Grude is a small, quiet town and street crime is rare. The real risks are on the road: the M-6 and the regional roads are two-lane, overtaking is common, and winter ice and summer tourist traffic both catch drivers out. Keep headlights on and carry your documents.
One and two days
No timed day plan for Grude yet. Suggested stay: 0–1 nights. Build a day from the list below, mornings for the big sight.
