Changing hotels every night buys you nothing; the drive between them is 20–50 minutes. Sleep where your evenings happen: Tempe or downtown Phoenix for walkable nights and rail, Scottsdale for resorts and golf, Mesa or Gilbert for cheaper rooms and East Valley trailheads. In summer, treat the region as a morning-and-evening place and keep an indoor plan for 11:00–17:00.
