GranvilleGranville, Ohio
Give Granville one night, or a half-day stop between Columbus and Newark: the walkable Broadway blocks and Denison campus fill an afternoon, not a weekend.
Granville is a small New England-style college village 35 mi (about 56 km) east of Columbus, built around Denison University and a single historic main street. Two inns, a handful of museums and a bike trail are the whole offer, so it works as an overnight on the way to Newark or as a slow afternoon out of Columbus. Anything longer needs a car and the wider Greater Columbus region.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
East Broadway (village core)
The two historic inns and the museum sit on one block; park once and walk everything. Best for a single night.
West Broadway and SR-661
Guest houses and chain motels toward Newark; cheaper, but a 10–20 min walk or short drive from the restaurants.
Newark or Columbus
More rooms and lower rates; use Granville as a day stop if the two village inns are full.

Watch out
Safety
- Robbins Hunter Museum keeps short, limited hours (afternoons, midweek to Saturday) — confirm before you build a day around it.
- Denison University is an active campus: some buildings and lots are restricted during term and events.
- Village parking near Broadway fills on move-in, commencement and game weekends.
- Winter ice on brick sidewalks and SR-661 hills; summer afternoons are humid.
- Cell coverage and rideshare are patchy on the rural roads east of the village.
