Grande Comore (Ngazidja)
Sleep in Moroni for 3–4 nights; do the north coast and Mount Karthala as trips from one kept bed, and keep a buffer day before your flight out.
Rules in force · 3
- Comoros ↗Check visa and entry rules for your passport with the Comorian authorities before booking; visas on arrival have been available for many nationalities, but confirm before you fly.
- Comoros ↗Book a travel-clinic visit several weeks ahead; ask about malaria prevention and whether a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for your route.
- Comoros ↗Inter-island flights and boats are irregular and sea crossings can be unsafe in rough weather; prefer flights and keep a buffer day.
Grande Comore is one base and two outings. Moroni holds the airport link, the hotels and the market; the north-coast beaches are a day by taxi, and Karthala is a guided overnight. Flights are few and inter-island links irregular, so do not stack trips against a departure.
Where to sleep
Corniche hotels for first-timers, the old town for a short walk to the mosque.
North-coast beach town, about 40 minutes by taxi.
Volcano; guided overnight climb; not a day trip.

- 5 nights

- Do not plan Karthala or a boat to another island as a day trip: both need a guide and a buffer day.
