Grand-Pré
Give Grand-Pré half a day: the national historic site plus Evangeline Beach at low tide. Sleep in Wolfville, 10 min away, not here.
Grand-Pré is a village of a few hundred people in the Annapolis Valley, and almost everything a visitor comes for sits inside one UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Landscape of Grand Pré, telling the story of the Acadian deportation of 1755. The site takes two to three hours; Evangeline Beach adds an hour or two at low tide. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop from Wolfville or as a break on the drive between Halifax and Annapolis Royal.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
You need a car. Route 1 (Evangeline Trail) runs through the village and Highway 101 passes just south, but there is no useful local bus. The national historic site, Evangeline Beach and the wineries are 2–4 km apart, too far to walk comfortably between in one visit.

Watch out
Safety
- The national historic site closes mid-October and reopens mid-May: outside those dates there is nothing to visit.
- Evangeline Beach mudflats are tidal: check the tide table and never walk out on a rising tide.
- Cell coverage is fine, but fuel and food are in Wolfville or Kentville, not in the village.
