Götaland is Sweden's south: half the country's population, the old Danish provinces of Scania, Halland and Blekinge, the west-coast archipelago, the Småland forests and the two big lakes Vänern and Vättern. It is not one destination but a set of bases 1–4 hours apart by train. Pick Gothenburg for the west coast and Bohuslän, Malmö or Lund for Scania and Copenhagen, and treat Gotland, Öland and the lake towns as their own trips.
