Gilroy is a small city at the south end of Santa Clara County, 36 mi (about 35 min) from San Jose on US 101 and roughly halfway to Monterey. It calls itself the Garlic Capital of the World, and its real draws are a plant-themed theme park, a county park with camping, and 145 outlet stores. There is no walkable sight cluster, so a car decides whether the stop works.

Get around

A car is the practical way to move: sights sit 2–5 mi apart and buses are thin. Caltrain runs from Gilroy station north to San Jose and San Francisco, but San Jose–Gilroy service is rush-hour only. VTA local routes 84, 85 and 86 cover town, and Greyhound, Flixbus and Amtrak Thruway stop at the transit center.
