Give Gdańsk 2–3 nights: one full day for the Main Town and Solidarity, one for Sopot or Malbork. Skip a car; trams and SKM trains cover everything.
Gdańsk is Poland's Hanseatic port city on the Baltic, the capital of the Pomorskie region and the birthplace of the Solidarity movement. The rebuilt Main Town packs the Royal Way, St Mary's Church and the riverside into a walkable core, while the SKM coastal train links Sopot and Gdynia in under 30 minutes. Two to three nights covers the city and one day trip; May to September is the best window, with July and August the busiest and priciest.

Scams and watch-outs

- Pickpockets work the Gdańsk Główny station area, especially late.
- Ignore unofficial drivers who approach you inside the airport arrivals hall; use a licensed taxi, Uber or Bolt.
- Parking in the Main Town is paid and expensive (about 5.50 zł/h, 09:00–20:00) and traffic around the centre is heavy.
