Garopaba
Go for 2–3 nights if you surf or want a quiet beach town; skip if you need big-city nightlife or plan to arrive without a car in winter.
Garopaba is a former fishing village on the Santa Catarina coast, south of Florianópolis, where the main draw is a string of surf beaches rather than a town centre. It works as a 2–3 night beach stop inside a Grande Florianópolis trip, and it is small enough to see on foot or by local bus once you are in.

- Rip currents and unpatrolled stretches are the main beach risk; alcohol plus surf is a bad mix.
