Gallipoli

Gallipoli is a Salento summer town split in two: a limestone island old town of Baroque churches and white alleys, and a mainland strip of Corso Roma, beaches and clubs. It is a beach-and-nightlife base, not a sightseeing city. Two nights covers it; in peak season the centre is loud, crowded and expensive, so book early or stay in the suburbs.

Get around
The old town is car-free and walkable once you cross the 17th-century bridge; Corso Roma links it to the modern centre. FSE regional trains serve Gallipoli station plus two summer-only stops (Via Salento, Baia Verde), and local buses run to the beaches. A car helps for Punta Pizzo and day trips, but summer parking near the centre is scarce.
