Fjerritslev
Skip as a base unless you have a car: 1 night for the museum and Aggersborg, or 2–3 nights if you want the coast, Vejlerne and Bulbjerg.
Fjerritslev is a 3,300-person town in Han Herred, the strip between the North Sea and the Limfjord, roughly halfway between Thisted and Aalborg. It is not a sight-heavy town: the draw is the surrounding nature (Bulbjerg cliff, Vejlerne wetlands, the North Sea beaches) and Viking-era Aggersborg. Buses are thin and stop in school holidays, so a car or bike changes what you can do here.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Firm handshake and eye contact; first names at once; avoid: Titles and small talk that goes on too long
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for meetings and dinners; avoid: Being 15 minutes late without a message
- Home visit: Shoes off; bring flowers or wine; say 'tak for mad' after the meal; avoid: Leaving right after eating
- Conversation: Dry humour, directness and self-deprecation; avoid: Boasting — Janteloven frowns on it
- Queues: Take a number (kølapper) where there is a machine; avoid: Pushing to the counter
- Cycling: Signal stops and turns with your hand; keep right; avoid: Riding side by side in busy lanes
- Toasts: 'Skål' with eye contact before and after drinking; avoid: Looking away mid-toast
Scams and watch-outs
- Local buses do not run during school holidays, which coincide with peak tourist season.
- Bulbjerg's limestone cliff is eroding: stay back from the edge.
- Lystanlægget park gets muddy after heavy rain.
- Many rural sights have no staffed opening hours: check before driving out.
Very safe. The real risks are rural roads with no lighting, eroding cliffs at Bulbjerg, and getting stranded when the limited buses stop running.
