Fairmont Hot Springs

Fairmont Hot Springs is a small Columbia Valley community of about 475 people on Highway 93/95, 26 km south of Invermere and 108 km north of Cranbrook. It exists for three things: the mineral pools, three golf courses and a small family ski hill. One night covers the pools and a round of golf; two nights add the hoodoos and a slow valley day. You need a car — the valley bus runs weekdays only.

A car is effectively required: sights and golf courses sit along Highway 93/95 and Hot Springs Road with no walkable core. BC Transit's Columbia Valley route links Fairmont Hot Springs and Invermere Monday to Friday only, so a weekend without a car strands you.

- Highway 93/95 is a two-lane mountain road with wildlife (deer, elk) at dawn and dusk.
- Cell coverage is patchy on the highway south toward Cranbrook.
Very safe for a small resort community. The real risks are the two-lane highway, wildlife on the road at dawn and dusk, and cold water or ice around the creek — not crime.
