Entebbe is the easy end of a Uganda trip: sleep here on the first and last night, do the botanical gardens and the wildlife centre in the morning, keep the afternoon for the lake — and leave Kampala traffic out of any day that ends at the airport.

The honest verdict

Entebbe sits on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, a few minutes from the airport and 40 km (1 to 3 hours in traffic) from Kampala. The town is quiet, green and spread out: pavements are thin, distances need a car or a boda-boda, and the rain arrives in the afternoon in the wet months. Four clusters cover a first or last visit; the gorilla and safari legs of the trip start from the airport, not from here.
