The Eastern Cape is South Africa's long Indian Ocean province: the Garden Route's eastern end at Tsitsikamma, malaria-free elephants at Addo, and the Wild Coast, a rural stretch of cliffs and empty beaches between East London and Mthatha. It is a self-drive province — public transport reaches the cities but not the parks or the coast villages. Two nights in Gqeberha plus three on the Wild Coast, or a park loop via Graaff-Reinet, is the shape that works.

Coast (Gqeberha, East London, Wild Coast): Warm and mild year-round; rain falls mostly in spring and autumn. Summer (Dec–Feb) is hot and busy.
