Step by step
From the airport: Douglas–Charles (DOM) is on the north-east coast, about an hour to Portsmouth and longer to Roseau. Shared taxis run about US$30 per person and private cars US$80+; confirm whether the quote is per person or per car before you get in. Canefield (DCF) near Roseau has limited regional flights only.
On main roads: minibuses leave from Roseau's bus stands when full, not on a timetable. Roseau–Portsmouth takes about an hour for EC$6–12. Pay the conductor in cash, in local currency, and keep small notes.
For trailheads and the east coast: rent a car or hire a driver-guide. You need a local driving permit (about US$12) on top of your licence; rental firms usually arrange it. Roads are steep, narrow and potholed, and you drive on the left.
On foot: the Waitukubuli Trail runs 14 segments, about 185 km in total, and works best one or two segments at a time with transport arranged at both ends. Ask locally about storm damage before setting out.
