Divriği
Go for one night, or as a 6-hour stop between Sivas and Erzincan trains: the UNESCO mosque carvings are the whole reason, and the town is small.
Divriği is an iron-mining town of about 11,000 people in the mountains of north-central Anatolia, and its one unmissable sight is the Great Mosque and Hospital, a UNESCO site from 1229 with stone portals carved figure by figure into the walls. Everything else — tombs, a ruined citadel, a view terrace, a stone bridge — fits around that. The town is quiet, the old centre is intact, and most travellers see it on the Doğu Express or on a Sivas–Erzincan regional train.
