Columbiana
Skip as a base: a half-day stop for Firestone Park and the Dutch Village dinner theater, 1 night if you book a show.
Columbiana is a small Ohio town (population about 1,200) between Youngstown and East Liverpool, on SR 7, SR 11 and SR 14. Its pull is one cluster on SR 14 — a Dutch-themed restaurant, shops, inn and dinner theater — plus a town park and a Shaker craft festival in August. Most travellers see it in a few hours from Youngstown or Salem; a night only makes sense if you have theater tickets.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Almost everything is closed on Sundays and after about 21:00; plan food before you arrive.
- Dinner-theater seats are sold by performance, not walk-up: reserve ahead on the venue site.
- Winter ice on SR 11 and SR 14 is the real hazard; drive in daylight.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on the back roads toward Cherry Valley.
A low-crime small town; the real risks are winter ice on SR 11 and SR 14, deer on rural roads at dusk, and arriving after everything has closed for the night.
