June is the start of Chicago's warm season: mild mornings, warm afternoons, and long evenings that stay light until after 20:00. The city sits on Lake Michigan, so the lakefront and downtown can run a few degrees cooler than inland neighbourhoods when the wind comes off the water.

Rain arrives as short thunderstorms rather than all-day drizzle, and the month averages around 10–11 wet days. Severe storms and tornado watches are possible in the Midwest in June, though they rarely disrupt a city trip for long. Humidity is noticeable but not yet at July–August levels.

June is high season in Chicago.
