The Central Coast is the stretch of California between the Bay Area and Los Angeles: Highway 1 and US 101, Spanish missions, cool-climate farms and vineyards, and towns small enough to walk. It works best as a one-way run with two or three overnight stops, not as a base you return to. Monterey and Santa Barbara are the two nights most people keep; San Luis Obispo or Paso Robles is the useful middle.
