Caribbean West is Panama's Caribbean side: Bocas del Toro province, the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca and the northern strip of Veraguas. Almost everything a visitor does happens on the water around Isla Colón, Isla Carenero and Isla Bastimentos, reached by water taxi from Almirante. The mainland towns — Almirante, Changuinola — are transport nodes, not destinations. Pick one island as a base, add day trips by boat, and skip any plan that tries to cover the mainland interior.

Bocas Town to Changuinola by boat has been closed for years — all water taxi service runs from Almirante.
The Costa Rica border closes in the late afternoon and the two countries keep different clocks; do not plan a same-day border crossing plus a boat.

Bocas del Toro and the islands: Rain is possible all year; the driest stretch is roughly February to April and again in September–October. The heaviest rain and the highest humidity fall from May to August, and the Caribbean side can be wet when the Pacific side is dry.

Hurricane season in the Caribbean runs June to November; Panama sits south of the main track but the region still gets long spells of rain and rough boat crossings.
