Cardiff is one of the cheaper UK city breaks because the best-known attractions cost nothing. The National Museum Cardiff on Cathays Park is free to enter, Bute Park runs behind the castle for 2 km of riverside walking, and the Cardiff Bay barrage path is a free 3 km loop with the bay skyline on one side and the Bristol Channel on the other. Cardiff Castle charges for the house and guided tours but the public square in front and the animal-wall walk outside are free.

For food, Cardiff Central Market is the value anchor: cooked breakfasts, Welsh cakes, and a bakery counter that undercuts every café on Queen Street. The city's Victorian and Edwardian arcades hold independent coffee shops and sandwich counters where a filled roll and a drink land well under £6. Pub food — a carvery or a pie and chips — is the reliable evening option at £10–15.

Sleep is where the budget moves most. Hostel dorms in the city centre run £25–40 a night; a chain hotel room outside a match weekend is often £60–90 for two. Book midweek, avoid Six Nations Saturdays at the Principality Stadium and big concert nights at the Utilita Arena, and prices fall back to normal.
