Burgenland is a 166 km strip of vineyards, reeds and small towns along the Hungarian border, with Vienna at the northern end. The north (Eisenstadt, Rust, Neusiedl am See) works as a day-trip or one-night stop from Vienna; the thermal south (Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Stegersbach, Güssing) is a separate 2-3 night trip and hard to reach without a car. Pick one end, not both.

North-to-south public transport is thin: roughly two buses a day on some links. Plan the south with a car or a long transfer.
