Know before you go
- The view is free from the lower promenade at all hours; only the seven upper towers and the top walkway need a ticket.
- Named for the fishermen's guild that once defended this stretch of the medieval wall, not for any fishing on the hill itself.
- The neo-Romanesque towers date from 1895–1902 — decorative, not a surviving medieval fortification.
- No lockers and no shade on the terraces: carry water and leave big bags at the hotel.

Is Fisherman's Bastion free?
The lower terrace and promenade are free at all times. Only the seven upper towers and top walkway need a paid ticket, sold on site.
Is it actually a historic fortification?
No: the current towers and walls date from 1895–1902, built as a decorative viewing terrace during the millennium celebrations, on the site of a medieval fish market and wall defended by the fishermen's guild.
