Budapest by district
Almost everything a first visit needs sits inside a compact loop: Belváros and the Parliament on the Pest riverbank, the Jewish Quarter a short walk inland, Castle Hill across the Chain Bridge in Buda. Andrássy Avenue and City Park are a further stretch by metro.
About these names
Budapest is divided into 23 numbered districts (kerület); addresses give the district in Roman numerals (e.g. 'VII. Dob utca'). Locals and maps use both the number and the historic name — Belváros is District V, the Jewish Quarter sits mostly in District VII (Erzsébetváros).
