About these names
The visitor centre sits in a rough triangle: the Old Town (Lipscani) in the south, Calea Victoriei running north to Revolution Square and the Athenaeum, and the Palace of the Parliament 2 km south-west of the Old Town. Herăstrău and the Village Museum are a further ride north. Nothing is truly walkable end to end in summer heat.

A historic beer hall in a neo-Gothic building on Strada Stavropoleos: Romanian classics under painted ceilings; go before 12:00 or after 15:00 to avoid the tour groups.

An 1808 inn with a two-storey courtyard on Strada Franceză: a sit-down Romanian lunch under the galleries, a short walk from Curtea Veche.
