The visitable centre runs along the Congo River: the Corniche and government quarter in the middle, Poto-Poto to the north-east, Bacongo to the south-west, and the Basilique Sainte-Anne on the rise between them. Almost everything sits within a few kilometres of the river.

Street numbering is inconsistent; drivers and hotel staff navigate by landmark and avenue name, not house number. Agree the destination by landmark before you set off.
