Step by step: choosing your dates
Step 1 — pick your regions first. Rio and the Southeast coast are at their best April–October: dry, sunny winters around 20–26 °C, with hot, humid, stormy summers from December to March. The Northeast coast (Salvador, Recife, Olinda, Maceió) is warm all year at 26–30 °C and driest September–March; its rainy season runs roughly April–July.
Step 2 — check the two seasonal regions. The Amazon is hot and humid all year: high water around May–July lets canoes enter the flooded forest, while low water August–November exposes river beaches. The Pantanal dry season is June–October, when wildlife concentrates around waterholes and jaguar viewing peaks July–September; the wet season floods roads.
Step 3 — check the calendar. Late December to February brings New Year on Copacabana and Carnival (around 5–10 February 2027), with peak crowds and prices in Rio, Salvador and Olinda.
