Belterra
Go for a half-day from Santarém: walk the Ford-era houses on the main street, then take a bus back. No need to sleep here.
Belterra is a small Pará town that the Ford Motor Company built after its rubber venture at Fordlândia failed. The draw is the surviving American-style houses from that era, most of them along the main street running from the main square toward the river. A few hours cover the walk, the photos and a cheap meal before the bus back to Santarém.
