The honest verdict
Belgrade's sights are close together on the ridge above the Sava and Danube, but the city runs late: mornings are slow and evenings are long. The trips that go wrong are the ones that plan two big climbs in July heat, take an unbooked airport taxi, or leave Vračar and the Temple of Saint Sava for the last hour. Four walking clusters cover a first visit; Novi Sad is a day away by fast train.

Three mistakes to avoid

- A shared rakija before a meal is common: make eye contact when you clink glasses and say "Živeli".
