About these names

Rarotonga has one coast road (Ara Tapu) circling the island and one older inland road (Ara Metua) that cuts across the back of Avarua; drivers and the round-island bus use both, so confirm which road a stop is on.

Avarua is compact: the harbour end (Avatiu), the town centre around the church and market, and the quieter east side toward Takamoa all sit within about a 20-minute walk of each other along the coast road, Ara Tapu.
