Sleep in Amman for two or three nights; Jerash, Madaba and the Dead Sea are day trips from the same bed, and Petra and Wadi Rum are separate trips with their own nights.

Amman is a hill city and the arrival base. Jerash, Madaba with Mount Nebo, and the Dead Sea each take a day by car; Petra is a three-hour drive south and needs a night on the spot. Keep the Amman bed for the day trips and send a small bag south.

Roman city; about an hour north.
Mosaics and a viewpoint; about 45–60 minutes south-west.
Float and go back; about an hour from Amman.
