Aegean Turkey is where the best-preserved Greek and Roman cities actually stand: Ephesus, Pergamon, Miletus, Didyma. It is a ruins-and-coast region, not a beach region — most shores are pebble or rock. Sleep in İzmir for city life and flights, in Selçuk for Ephesus at opening time, in Bodrum or Çeşme for swimming and windsurfing. Three to five nights covers the core; a car or a negotiated taxi solves the scattered sites.
