The emirate is 87% of the UAE by area but almost everyone only sees the city. Abu Dhabi city is a calm, green, low-rise capital: the Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Watan and the Corniche fit into two days. Everything else — Al Ain's oasis and forts, Liwa's dunes, Sir Bani Yas wildlife, the Ruwais coast — needs a car, a tour or a resort booking, and each one costs you a full day of driving. Sleep in the city unless you have booked the desert or the oasis on purpose.
