Zülpich
Half a day is enough: see the Roman baths museum, walk the old town and have lunch. Not a base unless you are visiting family in the Eifel.
Zülpich is a small Roman-founded town in the Eifel foothills, 40 km south-west of Cologne. Its main draw is the Museum der Badekultur (Roman baths), a water-sports lake and a compact medieval centre. Most travellers use it as a stop between Cologne and the Eifel or Aachen.
