Zoar
Go for half a day, not a night: the historic village is about 2 hours on foot, 2.5 mi east of I-77 exit 93 on SR 212.
Zoar is a 169-person village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, founded in 1817 by German Separatists as a communal society. The draw is the compact historic district — about a dozen restored buildings, a garden and a museum — plus the Towpath Trail. Most travellers see it in 2–4 hours and sleep in Bolivar, New Philadelphia or Canton.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Building opening hours are seasonal and limited — check the official Historic Zoar Village site before you drive out.
- Some village streets are residential; park in marked areas only.
- Cell coverage is fine, but fuel and groceries are in Bolivar or New Philadelphia, not Zoar.
Very low crime in a village of about 170 people. The real risks are rural driving at dusk (deer), winter ice on SR 212, and long gaps between services — fill up in Bolivar or New Philadelphia.
