Zamora
Give Zamora one night, two if you want every Romanesque church: the walled old town is a 3-hour walk, so it works as a stop between Salamanca and León.
Zamora sits on a rock above the Douro at 650 m, on the Vía de la Plata between Salamanca and León. Its old town holds one of Spain's densest runs of Romanesque churches inside walls that still stand, and it takes about half a day to walk. Most travellers pass through on the train from Madrid to Galicia, or break the Salamanca–León drive here.
